USPS planning to hire 28,000 additional employees ahead of holiday season

The United States Postal Service announced that they will be hiring 28,000 additional seasonal employees this year.

USPS said in a news release that ahead of the 2022 holiday season, critical investments in personnel, technology and the footprint of USPS has been made.

The holiday preparations that began in January include converting 100,000 part-time employees to full-time positions, 60 million packages will be processed each day up from 53 million in 2021, 249 new package processing machines nationwide, more annexes and facilities, 222,682 fleet vehicles are ready to be used and new technologies for faster processing and deliveries, in addition to the 28,000 additional employees, according to the news release.

According to WPIX, USPS said they are also hiring an additional 1,000 truck drivers, letter carriers and team members.

“Successfully delivering for the holidays is a cornerstone of our Delivering for America 10-year plan,” said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in the news release. “Thanks to the 655,000 women and men of the Postal Service, recent investments and operational precision improvements, we are ready to be the most used delivery provider this holiday season.”

USPS is actively hiring full-time and part-time employees in addition to the season hires, according to WPIX.
