Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk said he broke his femur and is recovering in the hospital.
Hawk, 53, shared the news on his Instagram account on Tuesday, adding that mending is going to be more difficult because of his age.
“I’ve said many times that I won’t stop skating until I am physically unable,” Hawk wrote. “A broken leg -- with plenty of hardware -- will probably be the biggest test of that creed. I’ll be back. … maybe not at full capacity, but I resigned to that notion years ago as I approached ‘mid-life.’”
Hawk added that the injury occurred on Monday, Sports Illustrated reported. He did not give a timeline for his recovery, the magazine reported.
Hawk has won 16 medals at the X Games during his career, including 10 golds, CBS Sports reported. He returned to the X Games in 2021 after 18 years and finished fourth in the SKB Vert Best Trick event, according to the sports network.
At the 1999 X Games, Hawk became the first known skateboarder to complete a 900.
