Peter Aykroyd, former ‘SNL’ cast member, brother of Dan Aykroyd, dies at age 66 (NCD)

Peter Aykroyd, a former cast member and writer for “Saturday Night Live” and the younger brother of original “SNL” member Dan Aykroyd, has died, the show tweeted. He was 66.

“Saturday Night Live” paid tribute to Peter Aykroyd on Saturday night with a card that was displayed on camera after Simu Liu’s debut as the show’s host, Deadline reported.

The show also tweeted a tribute to the comedian, referencing the 1979 film short, “Java Junkie,” where Peter Aykroyd played the leading role.

Peter Aykroyd, an Ottawa native, was born Nov. 19, 1955, according to IMDb.com.

He had minor roles in “The New Avengers” and “SCTV” before joining “SNL” in 1970 as a writer and actor, Deadline reported.

Peter Aykroyd created the Canadian series “PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal” and co-wrote the 1991 film “Nothing But Trouble” with his brother. He also acted in “Coneheads,” “The Blues Brothers Animated Series” and “Justice.”

Dan Aykroyd has not commented publicly on his brother’s death, and no other information has been released.
