Park, 30, from South Korea, was diagnosed during a recent health check, her agency, ArtistCompany, said in a statement to CNN on Monday. The surgery ended the actress’ plans to promote her new movie, “Special Delivery,” the news network reported.

Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type of cancer to affect the thyroid, according to the Mayo Clinic. It can occur at any age, but most often it affects people ages 30 to 50, according to the clinic.

Park has appeared in several South Korean films, including “Steel Cold Winter,” “The Priests” and “Ode to the Goose,” People reported.

She had a breakout role in 2019′s “Parasite,” which won four Academy Awards, including best picture, best international feature film, best director and best screenplay.

Park played Kim Ki Jung, a young woman from a poor family who pretends to be an art therapist so she can get a job teaching the children of a wealthy family.

The film, directed by Bong Joon Ho, became the first non-English-language film and the first South Korean film to win an Oscar for best picture, according to CNN.

“The company would like to once again thank all the people for showing support for ‘Special Delivery’ and actress Park So Dam, as well as the actors and crew of ‘Special Delivery’ overcoming this difficult time together,” the agency said in its statement to CNN. “Park So Dam will focus on her recovery so that she can see you all healthy in the future, and ArtistCompany will also do our best to help the actor recover her health.”
