HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida man has been arrested after allegedly punching a man in the face one time and killing him at a gas station, officials say.
According to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, just after 6:30 p.m. on September 27, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue got a call about a man who was found unresponsive in a parking lot at a Chevron gas station. The man was taken to a hospital where he later died.
WFLA reported that the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Rodolfo Regino Jr., allegedly walked up to the victim and punched him one time in the face. The victim fell backward onto the pavement from the impact.
Investigators said Regino got back in his car and left the scene, according to WFLA.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the man’s death a homicide due to a “blunt impact to the head,” said HCSO.
“It’s sad to see the loss of a person solely because emotions were not kept in check,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in the news release. “The suspect admitted to our investigators that he knew the victim, had known him for years, and had always had issues and fights with him in the past.”
Regino was arrested on Oct. 3 and is facing multiple charges including manslaughter, said HCSO.
