Not recommended for pregnant women: WHO releases new guidelines for Moderna COVID-19 vaccine

The World Health Organization has issued new recommendations concerning who should and should not get the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.

The new recommendations, released this week, said that while pregnant women are in a higher risk category of developing severe COVID-19, the WHO does not recommend that they get the vaccine unless they’re at high risk of exposure, for example, people who work in health care.

Other groups that should not get the vaccine, according to the WHO, include people with a history of severe allergic reactions from vaccine components, as well as, children under the age of 18, pending additional study results.

Finally, people who have “an anticipated life expectancy of less than 3 months should be individually assessed,” according to the WHO.
