Blossum Nicole Kirby, 35, of Indianapolis, was charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, according to Marion County online court records.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to a Just Pizza restaurant late last month after a woman claimed to see Kirby swerving on a bicycle and nearly wrecking it a few times, WRTV reported.

Suezann Lynch, an employee at the pizza shop who called the police, told officers she saw the babies inside the crate, WISH-TV reported.

According to police, the two babies were unrestrained inside a milk crate attached to the front of the bicycle with a bungee cord, according to WRTV.

Brian Henderson, another employee at the restaurant, said he saw an “arm move,” when he approached Kirby, WXIN-TV reported.

“You can’t have those babies in there like that, ma’am,” Henderson can be heard saying in a video captured during the incident, which was shared in a nearby neighborhood Facebook group, the television station reported.

According to court documents, Kirby told police she transported her children on the bicycle because she did not have a car, WRTV reported. She added that she did not see anything wrong with transporting the children that way, court documents stated.

The boy and girl were only wearing diapers, WXIN reported. The temperature that day was in the mid-80s, according to the television station.

According to court documents, medical personnel called to the scene determined one of the babies was suffering from sunburns, abrasions on their left hand and minor scratches. The second baby had sunburns, a wound on their groin and an “extreme” rash.

The children were taken to an area hospital for treatment, WRTV reported.

Kirby is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1, online documents show.
