ATLANTA — Students at Maynard Jackson High School in Atlanta are learning while also giving back to the community.
They planted and are maintaining a roof-top garden that will help feed the surrounding community.
“It’s really important to give organic produce to the community and show them what we can produce in such a small space and the benefits from it. It’s amazing,” Christian Thomas, a gardening intern, told WSB.

Thomas is one of four paid interns, along with dozens of high school students, helping tend the project. The community service he performed helped him get a full college scholarship, WSB reported.

The students are growing everything from hot peppers to tomatoes to squash.
“[It’s] really fulfilling for students to be able to take the things that they have worked hard and reaped and give,” Brenda Isaac from One Love Learning Foundation told WSB.
The project was a partnership between One Love Learning Foundation, Maynard Jackson High School and Center Park Credit Union.
