TMZ was the first to report the accident, saying that the 97-year-old veteran of the big and small screen was behind the wheel of a 2018 Lexus LS 500.

It happened on March 15.

The car crashed into a gate after he slid on a wet road and lost control of the vehicle, People magazine confirmed. The publication said the area has been experiencing record rains.

Van Dyke was bleeding from the nose and mouth, TMZ reported. Paramedics treated him at the scene of the crash. Instead of going to a hospital, someone picked him up from the scene.

Police officers, according to TMZ, have requested that Van Dyke go for a driving retest due to his age.

This is the second crash in a decade for Van Dyke, who was driving his Jaguar near Calabasas in the Los Angeles suburbs when the car burst into flames on Aug. 12, 2013, Fox News reported.

Best known for roles in “Mary Poppins,” “Night at the Museum,” “Diagnosis Murder,” and in his self-titled television show, “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” he made headlines recently when he was revealed to be a contestant on “The Masked Singer,” People reported. He was unmasked on the first episode of season nine after performing “When You’re Smiling,” a song that was chosen with help from his wife Arlene Silver, while dressed as a gnome.

“I had never even seen the show when they asked me. So I checked it out and it looked like a lot of fun,” Van Dyke told People. “I was positive they wouldn’t be able to guess who I was. And I was right!”

Van Dyke and Silver married in 2012 despite a large difference in age. The actor is 97 and Silver is 51. But he credits her for keeping him positive thanks to the music in their lives.

“Every day my beautiful wife sings,” he told People. “There’s a lot of duets going on around the house most of the day.”

Silver said that she learned his favorite music during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I learned all the music he knows so I can keep him singing,” Silver told People. “Every show tune, every standard. I know all of them now, and I didn’t know any of them before.”

Editor’s note: The story has been clarified to show that the crash happened on March 15.
