Coronavirus: Prince Andrew tests positive for COVID-19

Andrew had been scheduled to attend a service Friday as part of the celebrations of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee. — Amid celebrations to commemorate the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s Prince Andrew has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Buckingham Palace.

“After undertaking a routine test the Duke of York has tested positive for COVID and with regret will no longer be attending tomorrow’s service of Thanksgiving,” a palace official said in a statement obtained by BBC News.

Andrew, Queen Elizabeth’s second son, has been undergoing regular COVID-19 testing and has not seen his mother since receiving his positive diagnosis, according to BBC News.

The queen and her family members are set to attend a Service of Thanksgiving on Friday at St. Paul’s Cathedral as part of the festivities to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.

On Thursday, the queen appeared on the balcony at Buckingham Palace alongside her eldest son, Prince Charles, her grandson, Prince William, and other members of her family. Andrew was not scheduled to appear on the balcony as he is not a “working royal,” BBC News reported.

Earlier this year, the British royal family announced that Andrew’s military affiliations and royal patronages had been returned to the queen amid a sex abuse lawsuit leveled against him by Virginia Giufrre, an American who said she was trafficked to him by Jeffrey Epstein when she was underage.

Andrew has denied having sexually abused or assaulted Giuffre. In February, he reached a settlement with Giuffre.
