An earthquake shook much of New England on Monday morning.

The quake was centered southeast of York Harbor, Maine but was felt more than 60 miles away in Massachusetts, WFXT reported. It was felt as far south as Pennsylvania, The Associated Press reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey said it was a magnitude 3.9 earthquake but then it was downgraded to 3.8.

The AP said the quake was reported at a depth of eight miles.

One person in Wakefield told WFXT that it caused their house to “rattle, shake and vibrate.” A Facebook follower told the news station “Ouch! Felt it here in Rowley and it was a loud pop and almost hurt my ears.” Another said it “sounded like a freight train before the entire house shook.”

The AP said that while not often, the New England area can have about two small earthquakes every year.
