SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A 75-year-old hiker was rescued Tuesday from a California mountain where actor Julian Sands is missing.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was notified that Jin Chung, 75, had not returned home Sunday after a hike Sunday on Mt. Baldy, according to The Associated Press. Deputies launched an investigation to search for Chung.
Chung had reportedly drove up to Mt. Baldy with two people and made plans to meet up with them at 2 p.m. by the car, according to the AP. Chung never showed up.
Chung was found on Tuesday and was taken to the hospital, according to KNBC. It’s not clear what his condition is.
Sands, 65, was reported missing on Jan. 13 after hiking in the same area, according to the AP. Mt. Baldy has been recently covered in heavy snow and ice and rescue efforts were impacted by avalanche threats as well as powerful winds.
Rescuers did not find Sands over the weekend but they continued to search with helicopters and drones, authorities said, according to the AP.
Two hikers have died in the same area over the last few weeks including one who fell about 500 feet down an icy slope, according to the AP.
Sands is best known for starring in films including the 1985 British romance “A Room With a View,” the 1989 horror film “Warlock,” and 1990′s “Arachnophobia.” He has also appeared in dozens of other movies and television shows.
