MARIETTA, Ohio — Two people died Tuesday morning when a plane crashed into the parking lot of a car dealership in Marietta, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol and WHIO-TV.
The crash happened around 7:15 a.m. at the Pioneer Buick GMC dealership at 1000 Pike St., police said. A plane, preliminarily identified as a 1974 Beechcraft King Air E90, crashed into the parking lot, damaging several vehicles and buildings, according to officials.
Police said two people, including the pilot, were inside the plane at the time of the crash. Both died in the crash.
No other injuries were reported.
The plane had left John Glenn Columbus International Airport at 6:40 a.m. and was bound for Parkersburg, West Virginia, WHIO reported, citing the flight tracking website FlightAware. The airport in Columbus is about 90 miles from the car dealership in Marietta.
It was not immediately clear what caused the plane crash. Authorities continue to investigate.
