Dominant pass rusher in his late 20s. Spent his whole career on a team doesn't win a lot. You might be talking about the Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett, who went public with a trade request on Monday. You might also be talking about the Las Vegas Raiders' Maxx Crosby, who took notice of the request like the rest of the league and is in a unique position to comment on it.
"When you hear speculation, that's one thing ... Then you see something like that happen where a guy is publicly going out and saying, 'No, I want out,' it's kind of crazy," Crosby told Yahoo Sports on Thursday at Super Bowl Radio Row in New Orleans. "And it's a guy of his caliber? It doesn't happen very often."
Crosby likened it to another recent major sports story: Luka Doncic's trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers.
"Let's say for instance, you look at the Luka trade. The guy that just took them to the (NBA) Finals. What did they do? They didn't even tell him and just sent him somewhere else," Crosby said. "So it's a two-way street, right? It's business. That's reality. There's a business side of it."
The four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro emphasized he wants to be a Raider, and said he "respects the hell" out of new Las Vegas head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.
Crosby signed a four-year, $98 million contract extension in March of 2022, and has two years remaining on his current deal, which means another contract isn't too far off.
"I'm looking forward to that, and I'm having those conversations, so I believe (the Raiders) will do what's right," Crosby said. "I have no worry about that. If it doesn't go that way, you never know."
There is one certainty about Crosby when it comes to Garrett or other players' situations.
"I don’t make decisions off of what other people are doing," Crosby said. "I do what I do."
