Jacksonville, FL —
UPDATE: Police say they believe the young girl shot and killed was a teenager.
Action News Jax reporter Jamarlo Phillips spoke to a mother who lives just around the corner from where the shooting took place, Lyndi Wright.
Wright said “It’s not much crime in this neighborhood, it’s peaceful or else I wouldn’t be here with my daughters.”
JSO said investigators believe two groups of people were outside a house when an argument broke out and several people pulled out weapons and exchanged gunfire, striking the man and girl.
“They need to put these guns downs and do something sensible with their life and stop shooting and carrying on,” Wright explained.
A young girl was shot and killed Saturday morning in Jacksonville Heights. She was one of two people shot on the 7800 block of Renault Drive.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was called to the area around 1:10 a.m.
They found a man with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The second victim, described by police as a “juvenile female”, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe there was some kind of confrontation in front of a home that led to a shootout.
Several people were detained and are being questioned by JSO. Investigators believe the people involved knew each other and that there is no threat to the community.
Action News Jax is working to learn more about what happened and who the victims are.
We’ll let you know as soon as new information is released.
