Jacksonville, Fl — As we honor Women’s History Month in March, we are spotlighting several community leaders and the impact they hope to have on future female leaders.
We sat down with State Attorney Melissa Nelson to hear about the role that strong women in her life helped to shaped her career.
LISTEN: Indepth with Melissa Nelson
Nelson says former Attorney General Janet Reno was someone who she looked up to, as she broke glass ceilings for her generation. Nelson also credited Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for paving the way for women as well.
She says the State Attorney’s Office now has more women lawyers than men. And Nelson says she’s working to identify talents and merit, and rewarding it.
Nelson says attitude is a key characteristic to success, especially as a leader. She learned it from her dad, and she is working to instill in her family.
