Women’s History Month Spotlight - Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook

Michelle Cook sworn in (Clay County Sheriff's Office)

Jacksonville, Fl — She is the first female sheriff in Clay County history. Michelle Cook says she understands the significance of her story, but she is quick to credit the women and men who guided her career and opened doors to put her in leadership positions.

WOKV is spotlighting women leaders in the NE Florida community. Sheriff Cook says she was initially planning to join the military but asthma prevented her from enlisting. So she followed advice from others to consider criminal justice, and during the first ride-along, she knew that it was the perfect fit.

“That desire I have to serve the community”, Cook said.

Cook says she has been fortunate to meet several leaders who helped aid in her development.
