Jacksonville, Fl — For a second time in three months, a deadly shooting at an Amazon fulfillment center on Jacksonville’s northside has police investigating. Amazon says it is offering counseling and support for the employees who were inside when Tuesday’s shooting happened around 7:30 pm.
A woman was found dead, and a man was seriously hurt. Employees told Action News Jax that it was chaos inside as the gunfire started, with hundreds running for the exits. Police later diffused any concern about an active shooting incident, saying it did not appear to any type of workplace violence. Rather, detectives said there may have been a domestic relationship between the man and woman.
In June, police said a man who was targeted was shot and killed in the parking lot of the facility on Pecan Park Road. Two suspects had exited a silver vehicle and started shooting at a 20-year-old man who was standing on a job application line outside the center. Two other victims were grazed by gunfire and were treated by responders at the scene.
The two suspects then ran back to the car, where a driver was waiting, and fled the scene.
Amazon did not answer my questions about the safety procedures in place for when employees enter the facility. I have followed back up in another email to try and get answers. I also asked if Amazon plans to increase security at this fulfillment center. @ActionNewsJax
