With less than three weeks until election day, both candidates for FL. Gov. in Jacksonville today

Jacksonville — There are 19 days until the midterm elections, and as it gets closer both Florida Gubernatorial candidates will be in Jacksonville today. Each campaign tells WOKV the two will be speaking in downtown nearly at the same time Thursday evening.

Republican candidate Ron DeSantis’s campaign says he will be speaking at the Duval County Victory Dinner at the Veterans Memorial Arena. His campaign says the event will start at 8 PM.

Meanwhile before DeSantis’s event starts, just blocks away, Democrat Andrew Gillum will be speaking at the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner at the Hyatt Regency. His campaign says the event starts at 7:30 PM.

The election is creeping up on the two candidates, and WOKV Political Analyst Rick Mullaney says over the next few weeks its important for both parties get their base out to vote and get as many independent voters on their side.

“So far the edge there goes to Gillum, I think that’s coming back to the common-sense notion of likeability.” Mullaney says.

He says don’t be surprised if any new developments over the next couple of weeks plays a factor in this tight race.

Mullaney says he thinks there will be a high turn out for in this election.

“I think passions are high, I think the partisan divide has never been more than it is right now.” Mullaney says.

Both DeSantis and Gillum are scheduled to share the stage this Sunday night during a debate in Tampa.
