JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the winter storm approaches, Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia communities are bracing for the storm’s impact. To help residents stay informed, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the latest county-by-county closings, cancellations, and essential resources available for those affected.

Northeast Florida:
Duval County
- Warming Center:
- The City of Jacksonville is opening additional Warming Centers on Tuesday night, given the expected weather impact on the Westside of Duval County. The following locations will be open from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21 to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22:
- West Branch Library, 1425 Chaffee Road South, Jacksonville, FL 32221
- Cecil Gym and Fitness Center, 13531 Lake Newman Street, Jacksonville, FL 32221
- Legends Center, 5130 Soutel Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32208.
- Government Offices:
- The Emergency Operations Center is partially activated. All City of Jacksonville offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 22 due to unsafe road conditions in the morning. Essential personnel will report for duty before conditions deteriorate, and non-essential personnel will stay home on administrative leave. City employees can call 630-CITY for updates.
- City Council: Committee meetings scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 will be rescheduled for Thursday, January 23.
- Beaches: Currently, offices for the Beaches municipalities are expected to remain open on Wednesday, January 22. They will continue to monitor weather conditions.
- Baldwin: Their Town Hall will be closed Wednesday, January 22. The Baldwin Senior Center will be closed for the rest of the week. If you need assistance, please call 630-CITY or 904-635-5955 for a public works-related emergency.
- 4th Circuit Court: The First Appearance Court for the 4th Circuit will remain open in Duval, Clay, and Nassau counties on Wednesday, January 22. Otherwise, offices will be closed, and only essential personnel will report for duty.
- State Attorney: The State Attorney’s Office for Duval, Clay, and Nassau counties will be closed Wednesday, January 22, except for First Appearance. There will not be any Zoom hearings on Wednesday, January 22.
- Property Appraiser’s Office: Their offices are closed on Wednesday, January 22.
- Tax Collector’s Office: Their offices are closed on Wednesday, January 22.
- Supervisor of Elections Office: Their offices are closed on Wednesday, January 22.
- Public Defender’s Office: Their offices are closed on Wednesday, January 22, except for First Appearance.
- Duval County Clerk of Courts: Their offices are closed on Wednesday, January 22.
- Waste Services:
- The landfill will be closed on Wednesday, January 22. Trash pickups scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for Saturday, January 25.
- Call Center:
- The call center will be staffed from 10 p.m. Tuesday, January 21 through the night, with normal hours resuming Wednesday, January 22, in the morning. If citizens encounter icy road conditions or downed powerlines, they should report those locations to 630-CITY.
- JTA:
- Normal operations are continuing on Tuesday, January 21. Free transportation to warming centers as long as it is safe to do so. Buses have detours around bridges so that routes are not impacted. The Skyway will start service at 9am on Wednesday, January 22. They will monitor and make additional Wednesday service operation announcements on their social media channels.
- Road Safety:
- The safest place to be is at home. Citizens are urged to stay off the roads Tuesday evening through noon on Wednesday, January 22 for their own safety and for the safety of first responders who are also impacted by hazardous road conditions.
- The Florida Department of Transportation will be pre-treating state bridges to stop ice from forming.
- The City’s Public Works Department has crews are ready to respond to any icy conditions on any city roads or bridges.
Clay County
- Shelters:
- If shelters are needed, the county does have plans in place with community partners to extend those locations to residents who need them. If that need arises, they’ll post that information on alert.claycountygov.com and social media platforms. If you experience an extended power outage that could create a life-threatening situation, please call 1-877-CLAYEOC.
- Government Offices:
- All Clay County Board of County Commissioners government offices, including libraries, the Rosemary Hill Solid Waste Facility, Clay County Animal Services, and our various programs, will also be closed on Wednesday. All services will reopen on Thursday, and if that should change, the county will let our community know.
- Waste Services:
- There will not be garbage or yard waste collection on Wednesday. Wednesday’s routes will be picked up on Thursday, and Thursday’s routes will be picked up on Friday.
- Bridges:
- Officials have gotten questions from residents about major bridges closing, including the Shands and Buckman bridges. Officials are advising our residents not to drive at all this evening and into the morning hours. FHP monitors those major bridges for safety.
St. Johns County
- Shelters:
- A cold night shelter will open on Tuesday, January 21st, at 8:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church (red door church) at 8 Carrera St. The cold night shelter hotline is (904) 819-4344.
- Government Offices:
- Waste Services:
Nassau County
- Shelters:
- Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County opened at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Government Offices:
- The NCSO Administrative Office will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, due to winter weather conditions. Essential personnel will remain on duty to ensure the safety of our community.
- Departments under the authority of the Board of County Commissioners will be closed on Wednesday. BOCC Offices are expected to reopen for normal operations on Thursday.
- City of Fernandina Beach offices will not open until noon, Wednesday, January 22.
- Waste Services:
- Due to the inclement weather event beginning this evening and continuing into Thursday, Waste Management will be delaying Wednesday trash collection for Residential, Roll Off, and Commercial collection until Thursday. They plan to resume collection on Thursday morning and will be operating on a one-day delay through Saturday.
Putnam County
- Shelters:
- The Putnam County Caring Coalition is offering Cold Weather Shelter January 21-24 from 7 p.m. -7 a.m. at Westminster Hall (across the street from First Presbyterian Church downtown Palatka) at 126 South 2nd Street, Palatka. If it’s still cold at 7 a.m. people can stay longer until the weather improves.

- Union County governmental offices and the Union County Courthouse will be closed Wednesday. Emergency Services (essential personnel) will remain operational. The Union County Health Department will also be closed Wednesday.
- The City of Lake Butler governmental offices will also be closed Wednesday.

- Bridge/overpass prep is ongoing between FDOT and the Union County Road Department.
Columbia County
- Shelters:
- Parkview Baptist Church will act as a cold weather shelter.
- Government Offices:
- Columbia County Sheriff’s Office administrative offices will be closed Wednesday.
- Lake City and Fort White Tax Collector offices will be closed on Wednesday.
- Lake City and Fort White Property Appraiser offices will be closed on Wednesday.
- Waste Services:
Baker County
- Shelters:
- BCSO Division of Emergency Management and its partners will open a warming center at the Baker County Fairgrounds located at 5567 Lauramore Rd, Macclenny, FL 32063. The warming center will open at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and anticipates closing at noon on Wednesday.
- A limited number of cots will be provided to sleep on. No food provided.

Southeast Georgia:
Camden County
- Warming Centers:
- Camden County Recreation Center, 1050 Wildcat Drive, Kingsland, GA
- Open overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, and continuing overnight as needed based on weather conditions.
- Government Offices:
- County government and city offices will be closed to the public and operating with essential personnel only on Wednesday.
- Waste Services:
- MSW and C&D Landfills will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and will reope for normal operating hours Thursday, January 23, 2025, weather and conditions permitting. Extended hours will be offered Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. •
- County (Unincorporated Area): The Curbside Collections office will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Note: Waste collections will be one day behind; Wednesday collections will be made on Thursday
- City of Kingsland: Waste collections will pause on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and will resume normal operations Thursday, January 23, 2025, weather and conditions permitting. Note: Waste collections will be one day behind; Wednesday collections will be made on Thursday.
