NOCATEE, Fla. — Every Wednesday night and Sunday morning, neighbors gather in Nocatee and walk 3.5 miles with weighted backpacks. It’s all part of the community gathering that took place Sunday morning in Nocatee with near 100 people in attendance, known as NOC Ruck.
The event aims to bring neighbors together and raise money for good causes in the process.

“Every year NOCRucks brings out about 100 to 200 people to go on Nocatee’s cancer walk which is called April Showers,” NOC Rucks co-leader Tom Simon explained to Action News Jax at Sunday’s walk. “We also do a pup walk where we carry bags of dog food to the humane society.”
However, Action News Jax told you Friday how the event’s name has now landed the event and its founders into legal trouble, with Nocatee developer The Parc Group claiming they trademarked the word “Noc,” also having sent a cease and desist to the event’s founders.
“It doesn’t really matter what our name is, but we’re standing on principle that we’re not causing any harm,” Simon stated Sunday.

When asked by Action News Jax when they plan to pursue legal action, The Parc Group said that the “hope remains that they will simply change their name to avoid any further action.”
NOC Ruck founder Michael Schroder said Sunday, however, they have no immediate plans to do so.
“Tom and I are not interested in ending up in court litigating this obviously, right? It’s a free club, there is no money generated, there is no revenue, but we’re gonna hold on as long as we can. And at that point Tom and I are gonna discuss what’s best for the club,” Schroder explained.
However, despite the ongoing legal battle, Schroder and Simon say this Nocatee community tradition isn’t going away any time soon.
