Weak tropical wave near Puerto Rico not expected to develop

Jacksonville FL — There will be many dry spots again today in Northeast Florida before our rain chances begin to increase later this week. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says he’s not expecting the weak tropical wave near Puerto Rico to develop into a tropical system before it gets near Florida later this week.

“A little bit of moisture will be thrown back across the area in association with this wave and tropical waves sometimes develop into tropical systems, like a tropical depression, tropical storm or eventually even a hurricane. This does not appear to be one of those instances however.” Mike says.

Mike says he’s expecting the wave will stay weak as it moves by the east of Northeast Florida. Mike says he is keeping an eye on a couple of tropical waves that have come off the coast of Africa recently that need to be watched over a longer period of time.

As for today, Mike says we’ll get back into the 90’s as we’ll top out in the lower 90’s and our warming trend will continue for the rest of the week. Rain chances will start to increase Wednesday and through the rest of the week as well.
