12-year veteran Deputy Ben Zirbel spent days in critical condition, following a crash while he was on motorcycle patrol. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating that crash, which happened at Blanding and Camp Francis Johnson Road, and whether any charges will be filed. The agency has said that process could take 90 days or longer.
Zirbel's funeral is being held Saturday, August 25th, with a church service at 1 PM at St. Luke's Catholic Church on Blanding Boulevard in Middleburg. The Clay County Sheriff's Office says it's open to the public, but seating is very limited.
Zirbel leaves behind his wife and an 8-year-old son. If you would like to donate to his family, there are two accounts set up. Find those details by clicking HERE.
