The incident happened outside of the bar “Surfer” on 1st street North in Jacksonville Beach. Police arrested Christopher Alan White and he’s accused of punching a bouncer and walking out of his $235 bar tab.
Police used 3 Tasers, a baton, and 4 handcuffs to bring down White and arrest him.
Witness video appears to show officers arguing with White and then a Taser was fired. According to police the officer pulled out his Taser because White wouldn’t give his hand to the officer so he could arrest him. White appears to rip the Taser prongs out of his chest then pleads with police to stop, then another Taser is fired by an officer. That’s when officers attempted to bring White down with a baton, and ultimately, it appears the 3rd Taser brought down White.
The incident left some Jacksonville Beach residents feeling uneasy. Annsley Grantham told our news partners at Action News Jax. that she was disturbed about what led up to the first Taser fired.
“He seemed pretty inebriated, so I don’t think it was necessary to tase him at all,” said Grantham.
The arrest report that we’ve obtained shows White is facing multiple charges including resisting an officer with violence and intending to defraud a resturant. The report also says police tried to defuse the situation, and told White, if he didnt cooperate the situation was gonna get worst.
A Jacksonville Beach Police spokesperson says they are doing a “standard use of force review”.
