UNF suspends Greek life tailgating until further notice

Jacksonville, FL — The Division of Student Affairs at University of North Florida has announced the suspension of tailgating associated with Greek life on campus.

An email that went out to members of fraternities and sororities stated the University is reviewing alcohol and drug policies, which includes tailgating procedures.

Back in December, President John Delaney said he had been in talks with members of the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council on how to better manage social functions at Greek-sponsored parties, before a tragedy does occur on campus. The school's IFC issued a response, saying Greek life does need to change from one that shows current big liabilities to one that fosters longevity and prosperity.

The Division of Student Affairs now says, when the review is complete, tailgating responsibilities will transition from the Athletics Department to the Division of Student Affairs.

UNF anticipates tailgating will resume for the 2018-2019 basketball season, but until then, all tailgating activities directly related to fraternities and sororities have ceased.
