Jacksonville, FL — It's been an unsettling day for students and staff at the University of North Florida.
In the past 18 hours, the university says there's been a number of disturbing rumors, including that someone had a gun on campus.
UNF's president John Delaney released a message, stressing that all of the rumors have been false, as he called for calm. He says they have taken immediate action based on the rumors, but didn't give specifics of what that includes.
Delaney also says they have University Police Department officers throughout the campus, both in uniform and in plain clothes, ensuring safety.
In the wake of these rumors and provocative flyers showing up on campus, stating that "It's OK to be white", Delaney asked the campus to remember their values, which he says include mutual respect and civility and a commitment to diversity.
