According to the agenda for a board meeting on Thursday, the university and city “...have identified a site that they believe to be ideal” and are “ready to immediately begin the work necessary.”

A university representative could not share any details about the location until after this week’s vote.

Action News Jax reported in July that UF was previously considering the downtown fairgrounds site or land around the Prime Osborn Convention Center.

According to a timeline discussed this summer, a campus master plan will be done in early 2025 and the first classes will start in the new space in 2028.

If the board committee approves the site on Thursday, it will go before the full board for a vote, and then negotiations will begin.
