Two planes have crashed in separate incidents in the southwestern part of St. Johns County Sunday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol says the first crash was happened at 7:40AM near Barrell Factory Road and Leonard Road, which is south of Hastings. Troopers say two men are in serious condition when a Piper PA 22 (Picture on bottom) they were in had engine trouble shortly after takeoff. FHP says the plane crashed at the edge of a corn field and landed upside down in a small creek. Both men are in their 60’s.
Meanwhile in a separate crash, FHP says two men walked away with no injuries after a 1979 Cesna 172 (Picture on top) went down near County Road 305 and Huff Road in the Elkton area. Troopers say the pilot was practicing emergency drills over a field and because of an error the pilot made the plane crashed into a field and flipped onto its roof at 9:21AM. Troopers say there are no charges pending in this incident.
