Jacksonville, FL — ShotSpotter helped alert the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to a shooting off Myrtle Avenue and West 16th Street today.
JSO says there were around five gunshots exchanged among a few people. While it’s unclear at this time how many people were involved overall, two were hit and self-transported to the hospital.
Nobody is formally in custody, but JSO says they don’t believe there are any outstanding suspects at this time.
The Violent Crimes Task Force and Aggravated Battery Unit are both investigating, and they’re asking anyone with information about what happened to contact JSO at 904-630-0500 or JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. You can also submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
The shooting happened not far from Stanton College Prep, but JSO says the school grounds were not involved and the school itself was not at all threatened. The Duval County Public School District put the school on lockdown because of the police activity in the area, but dismissal took place as normal.
