A motorcycle driver and his passenger are dead after falling off an overpass onto the Southside Connector.
The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened just after 2:30 a.m. Friday near where the Southside Connector - or State Road 113 - meets the Arlington Expressway.
Troopers say a Yamaha YZF-R1 was going east on the Arlington Expressway - or State Road 115 - when the driver failed to negotiate a curve while using the northbound on-ramp to get to the Southside Connector.
According to FHP, the sportbike veered right as it went off the road and collided with a concrete barrier wall, sending the driver and passenger over the wall, off the overpass and onto the northbound lanes of the Southside Connector.
The driver - identified as 39-year-old Eli Michael Holley of Ormond Beach - died at the scene. The passenger - 34-year-0ld Renae Nichole McLaughlin of Jacksonville - also died at the scene.
The report noted that the passenger was wearing a helmet and the driver was not.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved.
No other vehicles were involved, according to FHP.
All northbound lanes of the Southside Connector were closed for hours as part of the investigation. Those lanes have since reopened.
