The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a crash that left two people dead.
We first learned at 4:50am of the crash on I-295 at Old St. Augustine Road. The crash report from FHP says it happened dat 4:25am.
We're told by police on scene that the car left the highway and crashed into a light pole and then a tree. The car then caught fire and engulfed the passenger compartment.
The driver and a passenger were killed. Neither has been publicly identified at this time.
According to FHP, neither person was wearing a seat belt. It's unclear if alcohol played a factor in the crash.
One lane of travel was closed most of the morning drive, causing delays up to one hour through Mandarin.
