Traffic congestion relief could be coming soon getting to the St. Johns Town Center

Jacksonville, FL — If you drive in from the beaches you might see a line of cars on the off ramp to Gate Parkway, and some congestion relief could be coming soon getting to the Town Center. The Florida Department of Transportation says they are expanding the off ramp from JTB westbound on to northbound Gate Parkway, bringing the total number of lanes heading toward the Town Center to three. FDOT says Gate Parkway will not be expanded as part of this project.

Between work and home, Shani Hall tells WOKV she is constantly getting off on Gate Parkway to go to the Town Center, and she’s hopeful the expansion will help with traffic congestion.

“Construction often times shows that Jacksonville is doing well, but it’s also prolonged.” Hall says.

The work is not just happening on the westbound side, for drivers heading east on JTB there will be some improvements coming to the off ramp on to Gate Parkway. FDOT says they will be making the lanes on the off ramp from JTB east easier to see than they are now, as well as adding in a new lane as you turn south on to Gate Parkway.

This is project is part of the East Beltway improvement project which you see on your drive through the southside. FDOT says the lane improvements are expected to be completed by this Summer.
