Jacksonville FL — Wednesday, organizers of the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl announced that due to an increased number of COVID-19 tests and season-ending injuries, Texas A&M is not in a position to safely participate in the bowl game.
“We are disappointed that Texas A&M University and the Aggie fans will be unable to represent the Southeastern Conference in Jacksonville at this year’s TaxSlayer Gator Bowl game. However, the health and safety of the student-athletes, coaches and staff remains our primary concern,” says TaxSlayer Gator Bowl Chairman John Duce.
We’re told the process has already begun to find a replacement team over the next 24-48 hours. More information will be released once it’s available.
The game is currently scheduled to be played on New Year’s Eve at 11 AM at TIAA Bank Field in downtown Jacksonville.
Organizers are encouraging people who have bought tickets to hold onto them until final word on the status of the game is announced. Organizers hope to have an announcement on that by the end of the day on Friday. Procedures for refunding Texas A&M ticket holders are in the works.
