The teen arrested in connection to a fatal shooting near the Jacksonville Landing has now pleaded guilty to a weapons charge, and we’ve confirmed that’s the only charge that will be filed against him in connection to this investigation.
18-year-old Tyrik Solomon was arrested January 18th during the investigation in to the double shooting, which happened on the 16th. In the shooting, 16-year-old Khamoi Peterson was killed and a 13-year-old was hurt.
Court records say video surveillance showed Peterson pull out a gun and chamber a round. The surveillance shows Solomon then pull his gun and shoot Peterson. The court record says two eyewitnesses identified Solomon as the person who had shot Solomon, with both also confirming Peterson had pulled a gun first.
Solomon has now pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed firearm. He’s being given credit for his 35 days served, and will serve two years probation. The probation could be reduced to one year, if he meets conditions, including that he graduates in June and is fully compliant with home schooling. The adjudication is being withheld.
We asked the State Attorney’s Office whether Solomon will face any charges for the shooting itself, and we’ve been told no other charges are being pursued.
