Student dies after being struck by car in Clay County

We've just learned18-year-old Shane Savoy passed away after being struck by a truck as he walked to the school bus stop this morning.

Savoy was airlifted to a hospital Friday morning after he was hit by a pickup truck while talking to his bus stop.

The Clay County Sherriff’s Office told WOKV the 18-year-old was walking with a girl on Ranchette Road near County Road-214 in Keystone Heights when the pair was hit by the truck around 6:30 a.m.

18-year-old Shane Savoy was taken by helicopter to UF Health Gainesville, where he was listed in critical condition at 12pm Friday.  17-year-old Elin Cornett was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

CCSO said the pair was walking on the edge of the road and the driver did not see them in time to avoid hitting them.

"The young man may have actually pushed the young lady out of the way", said CCSO spokesperson Mary Justino.

Justino says the driver stopped and is cooperating with investigators.  The driver is not likely to face charges.
