JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida State Attorney Melissa Nelson released Wednesday afternoon talking about the death of George Floyd and an overall message to the community.
She states that the killing of Floyd in Minneapolis shocked and angered her.
“We will continue to work with our partners to protect peaceful protests taking place in our circuit. It is of chief importance to me that we continue to work together to make our community and our justice system better for everyone,” Nelson states. “Also, know those who resort to violence and who destroy property will be held accountable.”
Nelson’s office handles criminal matters in Duval, Clay and Nassau counties. She finishes the latter by saying that her commitment to serving and protecting the citizens of Northeast Florida remains as strong as ever.
