ST. JOHNS, Fla. — A St. Johns County man is trying to find a family, who he says lost their loved ones ashes inside of a locket near a pier in the area.

“I didn’t even know what it was at first,” says Joseph Cook.

Cook, a St. Johns County man typically comes to the beach in the area almost every day with his beach metal detector to see what he can find.

Action News Jax first told you back in November when the cook found a 40,000 dollar diamond ring beneath the sand, he later returned it to its rightful owner.

Cook typically finds rings and other precious metals on beaches, but what he found three weeks ago, he tells me now is very close to his heart

“Someone told me it was an ashes locket,” says Cook.

The heart-shaped locket Cook says it has a message on it.

His goal is to get it back to its rightful owner as quickly as possible

No name, I looked like 100 times to see if it had a name. The only thing it says is your wings were ready, but our hearts were not,” says Cook.

Cook tells Action News Jax he found that locket with those ashes near the St. Johns County fishing pier

“It was about almost 6 to 12 inches down in was in there pretty good,” says Cook.

Since that day three weeks ago, Cook has posted several times on his Facebook page, but no one has come forth.

Cook says he’s going to do the right thing because whoever this person is inside the heart, means the world to him

“It means a lot more to me than you think. So, I do try to return things, but this is more sentimental than anything. this is somebody’s family in here. I can feel, whoever this is I can feel them there. I feel like I have to really push to return it.
