SR 21 reopen in Keystone Heights after crash/fuel spill

State Road 21 has since reopened at Woodland Drive according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office after an overturned gas tanker spilled fuel in the area and caused the road to be shutdown for hours Tuesday. After the crash, Clay deputies say the area was evacuated including the Child’s Garden Daycare center. A reunification center has been set up at Keystone Heights Elementary School. If you still need to pick up your child, deputies say head to the school’s front office.

Florida Highway Patrol says the incident involved three vehicles and the tanker was carrying about 7,300 gallons of gas. According to the crash report two vehicles were traveling north on State Road 21 early Tuesday morning when one of the vehicles was turning left. Troopers say the vehicle behind the one turning didn’t slow down and hit the back of the one that was turning. FHP says that’s when the semi hit the back of the vehicle turning which caused the semi to overturn. FHP says the driver of the semi is the only person with minor injuries.

Charges are pending from the crash.
