Jacksonville, FL — Clay County health officials are warning Orange Park residents of several sick raccoons, infected with distemper.
One resident, Paul Nichols, saw a raccoon laying on its side right outside his home, shaking uncontrollably. Animal Control was called, and the raccoon was later euthanized.
Health officials say distemper does not affect humans, but can harm pets if they are not vaccinated. They say pet owners should make sure their animals' shots are current.
Residents are asked to call the Orange Park Police Department if a sick raccoon is ever spotted, and never attempt to feed one.
