Jacksonville FL — After a draft opinion was leaked from the Supreme Court, and reported by Politico, which suggests the high court is ready to overturn Roe vs. Wade, a rally is now set for Wednesday in Downtown Jacksonville.
Organizers say it will be held in part to call for action from Congress on codifying abortion access. The Women’s March Florida Jacksonville Chapter confirmed the rally is set to get underway at 6 p.m. outside the Duval County Courthouse. Speakers will be announced at the event.
Meanwhile, we also spoke with two different organizations in Jacksonville offering women’s services to get their perspective on the issue and Kelly Flynn with A Women’s Choice of Jacksonville says the organization’s biggest fear if the ruling is overturned, is what women will have to go through to access abortions.
“In my lifetime I’ve never gone without not having an option like this before”. Flynn says.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Pace with First Coast Women’s Services says no matter what happens, they’re planning on sticking around to serve women in the area.
“We want to be able to provide life-affirming options, counseling to women.” Pace says.
Under current law, abortions are currently banned in Florida after 24 weeks of pregnancy, but a recently signed law in the state would ban most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy beginning Friday, July 1.
