Jacksonville, FL — Students and staff at Kernan Middle School are safe, after a suspect was detained in a parking lot on campus.
The Duval County Public School District initially told WOKV the suspect of a law enforcement pursuit turned in to the entrance of the school. JSO has since confirmed to WOKV that there was no pursuit. Instead, they were contacted by Onstar about a possible stolen vehicle in the area. JSO says they got behind the vehicle, and OnStar then slowed it and ultimately shut it down.
DCPS told parents of children at the school that a gun was also found in the vehicle.
The incident happened quickly, so DCPS wasn’t immediately sure if there was time to put the school on any type of lock down.
All students and staff at the school are safe.
There are no details immediately available regarding the stolen car, but we will update as that comes in.
