Jacksonville, Fl — One week after a young Riverside woman was killed while confronting a car burglar, Jacksonville police have announced the arrest of a man.
22-year-old Tyree Parker is charged with second-degree murder. He turned himself in after JSO issued an arrest warrant.
Caroline Schollaert was shot last Tuesday. She had served in the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years and was assigned to the HITRON unit in Jacksonville.
Parker was booked into the Pretrial Detention Facility today; he is not eligible for bond.
“I feel it necessary to advise the public that the firearm used by the suspect in this murder was stolen from an unlocked vehicle just 11 days prior to this incident in the same neighborhood. So what was originally a crime of opportunity in a burglary of a vehicle escalated within in seconds, resulting in the violent killing of a woman who dedicated her life to serving her country”, said Chief of Investigations TK Waters, who said other charges are pending.
Chief Waters says there were eight other burglary cases the same night Schollaert was killed.
Rewards were offered through multiple sources including the U.S. Coast Guard and First Coast Crime Stoppers.
