The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has issued a scam alert you'll want to know about.

A man is contacting people over the phone saying he is from the Sheriff's Office and that the person he’s talking to has missed jury duty. Police say the man then goes on to say an arrest warrant has been issued.

JSO says the caller will ask you to buy a gift card to clear your name and then wants you to call back to give the gift card number over the phone.

Police say this is a scam, and they will never call you to tell you there's a warrant for your arrest. They'll also never tell you using money, gift cards or any other form of payment will make the warrant go away.

JSO says you can always remember they only serve warrants in person.
