JACKSOVNVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) reported one woman in critical condition after a shooting incident that occurred in the Downtown area at 600 N. Washington St.

According to JSO, at around 2:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Ashley St., where the shooting was said to have taken place.
On arrival, law enforcement discovered a female victim in her late 20s who had sustained a gunshot wound to her upper chest. The victim’s condition was reported as critical.
Preliminary information suggests that the victim had engaged in an argument with another female, believed to be in her 40s. During the altercation, the older female allegedly discharged a firearm and struck the victim.
Sources reveal that the victim may have used pepper spray as a defensive measure before the shooting occurred.
The Jacksonville Fire Rescue team arrived at the scene and transported the injured victim to a nearby medical facility. Medical professionals are reportedly working diligently to address her life-threatening injuries.
JSO has confirmed that the suspected shooter, a woman in her 40s, was apprehended by law enforcement and is currently in police custody. Authorities are actively interrogating the suspect to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
Both Violent Crime Detectives and Crime Scene Detectives have been deployed to the scene to gather evidence and piece together the sequence of events. This includes preserving physical evidence and conducting a thorough analysis to unravel the full story behind the incident.
