Jacksonville, FL — A piece of history uncovered.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office says it has seized what they believe to be an 8-inch Civil War era mortar.

Deputies say they responded to a call about a possible cannonball on Tuesday, in the area of A1A and Dondanville Road. The sheriff's office says they were not able to verify it was still explosive, so they seized it, due to the possible threat to public safety.
