Jacksonville, FL — Following a six-month deployment, about 40 members of the local Navy Patrol Squadron (VP-5) 'Mad Foxes' are back home with their loved ones.

While on deployment, the 'Mad Foxes' served with both the 4th and 6th fleets in 11 different countries across the world, including in Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Missions covered everything from airborne drug busts, search and rescue, and Hurricane Maria relief. The squadron was also the first US crew to join in the search for a missing Argentine submarine.

A NAS Jax spokesperson tells us the squadron also successfully executed over 4,157 flight hours in support of deployed operations, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance flights and anti-submarine warfare missions.

Families gathered at NAS Jax to welcome them home late Tuesday morning, where two newborns were able to meet their dads for the first time.
