Orange Park Medical Center unveils new memorial wall to honor organ donors

Orange Park Medical Center unveils new donor memorial wall (OPMC)

Jacksonville, FL — Orange Park Medical Center has unveiled a new memorial wall to honor organ donors.

OPMC says the display includes name plaques and an interactive digital display sharing stories of the donors and giving people who view the display the option to sign up as a donor in real-time.

The hospital has dedicated the memorial to Vince Alderson, who they say spent his final five years as the LifeQuest Hospital Services Coordinator.

One of the donor names that's been added to the display includes fallen Clay County deputy Ben Zirbel. WOKV told you in August 2018, when Zirbel was critically injured in a crash while on duty and, ultimately, died from his injuries. His wife said his passion in life was to help people and that as an organ donor, he was able to help people in his death.

OPMC says organ donation will continue to be a confidential process, and that donor names will only be added to this new memorial display at the request of the donor's legal next-of-kin.

As OPMC unveils this new wall, it's reminding people that one organ, tissue, and eye donor can save and heal more than 75 lives. To learn more about becoming a donor yourself, you can click HERE.
