A large piece of shipwreck has washed up at Guana State Park in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says this debris appears to be a piece of an old ship hull. Guana State Park requested archaeologists come out to the site to study the shipwreck.
Our partner Action News Jax was there with the archaeologists, who spent time taking notes, doing drawings, and mapping out the scene.
“There are so many details that go in to trying to assess the date, where it came from,” says Tonya Creamer, with the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum.
She says it’s up to the state to decide what will happen with the wreckage.
