CAPE CORAL, Fla. — In a Cape Coral, Florida press conference, Governor Ron DeSantis delivers bonus checks for five-thousand dollars to new law enforcement officers.
As part of Florida’s Law Enforcement Recruitment Program, effective since July 1st of this year, officers from both out-of-state and local areas who join the force can apply to receive a bonus check, according to DeSantis.
The governor says that in addition to the six bonus checks he delivered today in Cape Coral, 335 more checks are being sent out to new recruits across the state.
“We do have six officers with us, who are gonna get the checks: two came in from New York; one from Maryland; one from Georgia, and then two are locals, who are new here, which we also appreciated it,” DeSantis says.
The governor says it’s meant to show gratitude and appreciation for the new officers and wants to ensure that Florida remains a “Law and Order” state.
DeSantis speaks candidly to the new officers and the crowd at his press conference.
“They all came on board Cape Coral P.D. sometime this year. Some of them only a couple months ago. They got a baptism by fire, having to go through Hurricane Ian - I’ll tell ya that.” says DeSantis.
New recruits can expect their checks in the mail.
