Nassauville, Fla. — Nassau County is among the fastest growing counties in the country, according to the latest U.S. census report. It ranks 48th.

Rebecca Stephens lives in Yulee and said she is constantly picking up her four grandkids from school. Over the last six years, she has noticed the development expanding rapidly and more people moving to the area. “It’s just such a nice area,” Stephens said. “It’s safe, low crime rate, so more and more families are attracted to that. It still has a small town feel.”

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed the proposal for a brand new elementary school in the Amelia concourse/Nassauville area.

“With all these new families coming in, we definitely need more schools to accommodate the growth and shorten the distance,” Stephens told Action News Jax.

The new school is expected to improve accessibility, decrease traffic, lower school district transportation costs, and make more room at other elementary schools.

Next steps include the Nassau County school board taking soil samples and determining the proper access points. Once that is finished, it will go to the state for approval before construction.
